Welcome To Ujjain

Ujjain, one of the oldest cities in India, has a history that dates back to ancient times. Located on the banks of the Kshipra River in Madhya Pradesh, it is considered one of the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri) of Hinduism. The city has been a center of religious, political, and cultural activities for centuries. It is believed to have been the capital of the Avanti Kingdom, one of the sixteen Mahajanapadas (great kingdoms) of ancient India. Ujjain’s rich cultural heritage is an integral part of its identity, which reflects its importance as a pilgrimage site and a center for astronomical studies. The city is home to the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. It was also an important center for learning, and the renowned poet-dramatist Kalidasa is believed to have written his works here. Ujjain has witnessed the rise and fall of several dynasties, including the Mauryas, Sungas, Satavahanas, and Guptas, each leaving their mark on the city’s architecture and culture. Today, Ujjain is a bustling city that continues to attract pilgrims and tourists from all over the world, especially during the Kumbh Mela, a massive Hindu pilgrimage held once every twelve years.
